Hiking on This Trail in Arizona Will Lead You To a View Like No Other

Arizona is a state full of natural wonders that every outdoor enthusiast loves. In the city of Sedona, where vortexes with healing forces exist, there is another popular hiking trail that will lead you to a view like no other. Gear up and pack your bags. The Robbers Roost Trail will be one hell of an adventure!

Welcome to Robbers Roost Trail!

The Robbers Roost Trail treats adventurers to more than 3 miles of adventure, with an opportunity to see a variety of wildflowers, and do birdwatching, hiking, and biking, among many other things. You are also allowed to bring your dogs, but you must put them on the leash if you want to hike with them.

If you’re looking for a place to hike with moderate difficulty and without the pressure of a crowded place, this one is for you!

It is believed that Robbers Roost was a hideout for outlaws and robbers in the Silver Ore days of Orange County. That’s how the place got its name despite having no solid evidence to prove this statement. Location-wise, it could have been true given that the trail is away from most towns. Additionally, the open cave itself is large enough for the outlaws to stay in if they are planning for their next moves. If the robbers really hid up there in the old days, we are guessing that they just can’t resist the expansive and beautiful views of the surrounding forest.

Visitors would face a short (0.4 mile one way), but a steep and rocky hike to the roost. Expect occasional steep descent and ascents in the trail. You just have to keep going to reach the face of the red rock butte that houses the popular roost.

Note: The road can be pretty steep and difficult to navigate for those who are bringing in cars. The vehicle requirement to travel on FR 9530 is 4 x 4 because of the high clearance. If you are bringing a regular passenger vehicle, you will need to park at the start of the rocky road and add another mile to your hike. The Robbers Roost trail starts from the parking lot.

Don’t be afraid if there are no directions or signs around while going up.

One tip is to simply look at the rocks located around the trail! Some rocks have arrow symbols carved into it to guide other visiting guests. No one knows who drew them, but it sure is helpful! More often than not, Robbers Roost Trail will also have very few hikers. This is a good thing because you have the place all to yourself. But it can also be discouraging especially if you’re hiking out in the heat of the sun and you can’t see other people. It’s best to bring along some other friends to make the journey much more bearable!

Of course, while you’re on it, don’t forget to look for different kinds of wildflowers!

Once you reach the top of the trail, you will find a main opening to the cave and a smaller hole on the side that resembles a window. From there, you’ll see the beautiful red rocks and mountains surrounding Sedona. It’s simply surreal.

Take a moment as you take in the awe-inspiring beauty of nature. Since you have the place all to yourself, the deafening silence will only heighten your appreciation for this wonder.
