It is a crazy and difficult world we’re living in today with the scare of the COVID-19 just lurking behind the corners. The world seems to have been put in a pause with businesses and companies temporarily closing their (physical) doors, and people staying in as the new normal. But of course, there are still a lot of frontline workers out there who continue to do their jobs without fail. These are the true modern heroes and deserve not just applause, but our prayers and deepest appreciation as well. Luke Air Force Base plans to honor these great people with a flyover. What is it exactly? Keep reading…

Keeping The Frontline Responders in Everyone’s Hearts

Luke Air Force Base plans to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the amazing healthcare workers, first responders, military personnel, as well as other essential personnel who continue to do their jobs amidst the coronavirus pandemic. These people are all heroes in their own way because they take care of the sick, assist in bringing order to communities, and prepare essentials so everyone can still have a healthy, safe, and enjoyable time in their homes. The flyover is the air force’s way of saluting the brave people in today’s time.

According to the air force, they will include its 56th Fighter Wing and the 944th Fighter Wing, as well as the Arizona Air National Guard 161st Refueling Wing. Brig. Gen. Todd Canterbury, 56th Fighter Wing commander, says that this flyover will be a display of “American airpower, resolve and pride while keeping frontline responders in their [people’s] hearts.”

The flyover will consist of a formation of 15 aircraft including seven F-35A Lightning IIs and seven F-16 Fighting Falcons flying out of Luke Air Force Base and one KC-135 from the 161st ARW. It will begin around 3:10 p.m. and last about 50 minutes, so those staying at home can just look up to watch the amazing flyover happening this May 1, 2020.

The flight path of this flyover will take them through most Valley cities. These are Buckeye, Luke Air Force Base, Litchfield Park, Surprise, Waddell, Goodyear, Tolleson, Phoenix Metro, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Scottsdale, Deer Valley, Glendale, Peoria, Sun City West and El Mirage. With this, the residents living in these cities should probably expect jet noise as the aircraft pass overhead. It will only last for a few seconds, and it won’t really cause that much of a noise disturbance.

People are highly encouraged to watch the flyover as way of showing support to their cause of saluting the frontline responders. Additionally, they want to remind residents to stay at home and refrain from traveling to landmarks or hospitals just to watch the flyover. Large gatherings should also be avoided.

Be sure to remember the community flyover this May 1, 2020! If you’re going to watch, you can also tag Luke Air Force Base by using #LukeSalutes, #AirForceSalutes and #FlyoverFrida in your posts.
