Judging the name of the restaurant itself, it is actually nothing compared to what you’re thinking right now. Allow us to clear things up for you. There are no magic tricks or games in this restaurant. This is not a an Arizona show where you’d see magic or illusion fool your eyes. But you might be asking, “why is it called the House of Tricks?”

The restaurant itself was the result of the blooming relationship of two individuals. Two co-workers, Robert and Robin Trick, from another restaurant in Tempe thought of starting their own business. When they finally got married in the late 1980s, they turned that dream into reality. The restaurant’s name is derived from their surname “Trick” and their favorite restaurant “House of Joys.” Combine that together and you get the House of Tricks.

House of Tricks Arizona opened way back in 1987 in a remodeled 1920’s cottage. You will find the interior pretty cozy with the dozen tables surrounding a vintage stone fireplace. Look closer and see that it is built with local river rock. The canopy of mature trees embraces the patios – fully embodying the residential yet homey ambiance it originally had, and still has.

In 1994, the neighboring house, which was a historically recognized adobe brick structure built in 1903, was purchased and restored. Soon enough, it got its turn-of-the-century charm. There were two elegant dining rooms as an additional feature. It certainly amplified the “a la carte” building tripled Tricks’ indoor seating capacity and created intimate spaces for private parties.

Today, there is a wooden deck and outdoor patio bar built into the landscaped area between the two houses. This links the two properties together, inviting lots of hungry diners and many foodies in the process. Surely, it is a comfortable space where you can enjoy alfresco dining.
