Many people might recognize ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden as one of the beautiful spots in Albuquerque. That is true, but perhaps an understatement. In fact, nature has never been more expressive than here in this 36-acre garden that showcases beautiful plants of the Southwest and other arid climates. It also includes a 10,000-square-foot conservatory, with one wing of the conservatory housing plants that are native to the Mediterranean climates zones of Spain, Turkey, Portugal, Chile, South Africa, Australia, and California.

On the other hand, the second wing features xeric plants from North American deserts. Guests will be able to see the various exhibitions showcasing plants of different local habitats in New Mexico. There are also medicinal plants, as well as a butterfly pavilion and other attractions.

There is a new “virtual field trip” option from Discover the BioPark wherein students can learn about the Botanic Garden – including its habitats, and life science biological concepts. It is a way to enhance at-home learning without the risk of getting the virus. During the presentations, students can virtually travel through the facilities and meet the animals.

This might be designed for traditional classroom learning, but it is not limited to that. In fact, other groups such as scouts or youth groups, who have an interest in learning more about environmental science are more than welcome! The program roughly takes about 30 minutes, with the price starting at $50 and can be upgraded to $75 for special request content or a webinar that can accommodate up to 500 people.
