Allen captured this amazing Morning Majesty on a cool October morning in Western North Carolina as the sun began its climb above the Appalachian Mountains. The separate layers also make it seem like a well-planned painting.

Irene was taken in Rodanthe on the Outer Banks just after Hurricane Irene came crashing through. The power of the storm, as well as the devastation that followed, is very apparent here.

3. Dennis Brown

Brown captured the image of these young mantises in Wilmington. This photo is amazing and also earned him first place in the 2014 National Wildlife Photo Contest for the “Other Wildlife” category. The clarity is simply astounding and also makes this one of the most unique North Carolina pictures.

4. R.D Decker

Decker’s photograph was featured in the Wildlife in North Carolina Magazine 2010 Photo Contest. These wild ponies run as well as live freely along the Outer Banks. In this instance, however, a pony is going for a swim.

5. Cristina Garcia

In the mountains of Asheville, Garcia captured the purity of a young Black Bear cub. Her photo was taken for her site Travel For Wildlife and this baby bear is too adorable. It knows Garcia is there but doesn’t seem to mind.

6. Matt Cuda

This owl may not look all too excited to be having his picture taken, but Cuda’s dramatic image also made this birdy a star as it was featured on National Geographic’s Photo of the Day.

North Carolina is one of the most photogenic states in the country. Therefore, images captured here never cease to amaze and never will.

Growing up in various states along the east coast, I've developed a love of all things local. I currently live in North Carolina and wouldn't move for anything! I love the beach, animals, and creating my own adventures. I encourage everyone to travel and never be afraid to fail.
