5 Movies That Were Filmed in Chicago

It is a commonly known fact that the home featured in the movie Home Alone, is in Chicago. From the red brick to the white entryway and even the manicured hedges, you likely have the image in your head already. More recently, residents of Chicago may have strolled past the shooting of The Dark Knight, only to see their favorite landmarks shown on the big screen when the film premiered. A lot of famous movies were filmed in Chicago. Which isn’t surprising. But there are other movies filmed in Chicago you may not know about.

1. Ocean’s Series

The Ocean’s Eleven series is known for its glitz and glamour, so it might come as a surprise that they had to shoot in multiple locations to achieve that look. Parts of the film were shot in Los Angeles, Florida, New Jersey and Chicago, Illinois. Those paying attention will recognize the CTA Brown line stop at Library or Emmit’s Irish Pub.

2. The Road To Perdition

This Road to Perdition‘s plot actually takes place in Chicago. But it’s modern elements were disguised so well by the work of the film crew. They transformed each set into an immersive experience for viewers, allowing them to visit a time so many decades back. Viewers will recognize famous landmarks like the Harold Washington Library.

3. The Breakfast Club

Some viewers may have noticed similarities between scenes in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and the Breakfast Club. Sure it was the 1980’s, midwestern high school, they likely resemble each other. The high school used to film The Breakfast Club was actually the same location as that shown in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The school is located in Des Plaines, Illinois.

4. Roll Bounce

This laid back drama actually filmed in two locations, both Los Angeles and Chicago. But the roller skating rink featured in Roll Bounce is located in Lynwood, Illinois. You can even visit the Lynwood Sport Center today. They opened in 1975 and have had success ever since, long before the film was ever written.

5. The Amityville Horror

The tragedy that inspired the film, The Amityville Horror, took place in Long Island in 1970’s New York. Many years later it was to be fictionalized for the silver screen numerous times throughout the years. The rendition also premiered in 2005 was filmed in Chicago, Illinois, doing a successful job of bringing audiences back to Amityville.
