There’s no denying the summer months in Arizona can be quite harsh. With temperatures reaching as high as 125° Fahrenheit, many search for different ways to beat the heat. Water parks are a widely popular destination as they offer all sorts of fun amenities for the whole family. Here are 5 of the best water parks found only in Arizona that will help keep you cool.

1) Golfland Sunsplash

Since it’s opening in 1986, Golfland Sunsplash has been providing all sorts of “cool” entertainment for the hot Arizona summer months. In addition to its large pools and water slides, Golfland Sunsplash also features a full arcade, laser tag arena, go-kart racing, and a full mini-golf course. Some notable rides and attractions include Thunder Bay (450,000-gallon wave pool), Sidewinder (half-pipe style pool) and Thunder Falls (a seven-story family raft ride with three high-speed drops!).

2) The Oasis Water Park at The Arizona Grand Resort

The Oasis Water Park, located in the Arizona Grand Resort has been identified by The Travel Channel as among the country’s “Top 10 Water Parks in the United States”. For those looking for a thrill be sure to check out the eight-story high tower with three water slides! At this water park, you can also find a huge wave pool, private cabanas, a lazy river, a 25-person hot tub and a specialized water park area for toddlers. Although the hotel is open all year long, the water park is closed during the winter months from September through February so make sure to plan accordingly.

3) Big Surf

Did you know that Big Surf boasts the first wave pool built in the United States? Located in Tempe, Big Surf has been around since 1969 and continues to operate today. At one point this water park hosted surfing exhibitions and competitions but unfortunately was discontinued due to safety concerns. However, Big Surf still offers surfing lessons that make this water park stand out from the rest. FUN FACT: Pink Floyd performed here in 1972 as part of their “Dark Side of the Moon Tour”.

The Breaker’s water park is the only water park in southern Arizona. Located just 9 miles from downtown Tucson, The Breaker’s water park features a huge wave pool that transforms Tucson into an ocean paradise. Other attractions include Bonzai pipeline, Riptide, Splash Canyon and Captain Kidd’s Surfari. Make sure to arrive early as lines can become long!
