The towns representing the lower half of this percentile are unbelievably affordable to live in. Based on housing costs as well as household income, here are 6 of the cheapest places to live in NC.

1. Rockingham County

Situated just north of Greensboro, Rockingham County is one of the cheapest places to live in NC. The overall cost of living in Rockingham is 9% less than the nation’s average cost. Not to mention, the price of housing is an unbelievable 24% less than the nation’s average housing cost.

2. Stallings

Located just a bit west of Rockingham, Stallings has an incredibly strong economy and also an unemployment rate of only 8.7%. The average household income is $76,000. Living in Stallings, you are sure to save on groceries as the cost of food is 3% cheaper than the state’s average.

3. Indian Trail

Only a few miles down the road from Stallings in the Piedmont area is Indian Trail. A wonderful town to raise a family in, Indian Trail is exceptionally affordable especially paired with a median household income of $70,414. As with Stallings, the cost of food is 3% less than NC’s average.

Positioned between Greensboro and Durham, Burlington is a thriving old industry town not far from city life. The comprehensive cost of living in Burlington is 8% less than the nation’s cost as a whole. Similar to Rockingham County, the housing cost is even lower than the nation’s by 18%.

Not only is the cost of housing in Hickory much cheaper than average rates, but goods and services are approximately 3% lower than both the nation and NC’s average.

Person County rests on the border of North Carolina and Virginia giving locals the opportunity to do their shopping in Virginia for a lower sales tax bonus! The cost of housing in Person County is 21% less than the country’s median while healthcare costs are also significantly lower as well.
