Carolinians have a lot to brag about their home state. Along with housing some of our nation’s most beautiful beaches and serving as the grounds for much of the Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina is entitled to some incredible novelties.

  1. NC is home to 1,500 lakes of at least 10 acres and 37,000 miles of fresh water streams

    This also explains why NC is so popular among anglers. People generally associate water activities in North Carolina with its 300+ miles of beach. The reality is, you don’t have to travel all the way east in NC to take a dip!

  2. The Venus Fly-Trap is native to Hampstead

    North Carolina, specifically Hampstead and the Wilmington area, is home to this unique carnivorous plant. The National Wildlife Federation classifies the Venus Flytrap as “vulnerable” with less than 33,000 wild plants remaining. In some counties, it is a felony to steal this plant as it is naturally growing. Look but please don’t touch!

    You may be familiar with NC’s Mecklenburg County which contains the state’s largest city, Charlotte. It was in this county on May 20, 1775 that North Carolina became the first state to declare independence from England with the Mecklenburg Declaration.

    White Lake is a body of water in Bladen County in Northeastern NC. It’s been considered the “Nations Safest Beach” as there are no tides nor currents and the water is exceptionally clear.
