Arizona has its fair share of famous natural landmarks and people. But we bet there are one or two people on our list of famous people from Arizona that you didn’t know about. Though they all may not have been born in this great state, they moved there early on and established successful lives in the state. 1) David Spade

This funny guy, born in 1965, totally counts as an Arizonian since he has lived there since he was four. He is a well-known actor and comedian, who first came into the limelight in the 1990’s starring in Saturday Night Live. He grew up in Scottsdale, attended Arizona State University, and only continues to develop his successful career. You’ve seen him on the big screen in movies like Tommy Boy, Grown Ups, Grown Ups 2, Joe Dirt, and Joe Dirt 2:Beautiful Loser. 

He’s done plenty of voice work too! Listen for him in The Emperor’s New Groover, The Rugrats Movie, Hotel Transylvania, and The Jungle Master. Spade has been nominated for an Emmy and two Golden Globes and has had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame since 2003.

2) Alice Cooper

Talk about a face to remember! For those of you who are unfamiliar, though the name can be misleading at first, Alice Cooper is a man! Of course, he was born Vincent Damon Furnier. He moved to Arizona at a young age, started his self-named band, and quickly became a rock star! He was often called “The Godfather of Shock Rock,” and he was known for his macabre stage setups. Catch an Alice Cooper concert and you were likely to see all kinds of eerie things on stage: fake blood, electric chairs, guillotines, poisonous snakes, and swords.

If you haven’t heard their hit single from 1972, “School’s Out,” we aren’t sure where you’ve been hiding. All in all, Alice Cooper produced twenty-six total albums, nineteen of them as a solo artist. He is credited with helping to shape the sound of heavy metal and rock and roll alike.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock over the past decade, there’s no way you don’t recognize this name. Raised in Phoenix alongside her five other siblings, Meyer quickly became famous when she released her novel, Twilight. This romantic tale based around vampires captured the heart of not only young girls but many other readers also. Her book quickly became a best-seller, and she the best selling author. Twilight became so popular that nearly thirty million copies of it were sold in 2008, and, since its publication, it has been translated into thirty-seven different languages.

All of this success means that Meyer has been ranked on the list of “100 Most Influential People,” and also on the “Celebrity 100” list of the world’s most powerful celebrities.

4) Emma Stone

Emma Stone was born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona! Since childhood, Stone wanted to be an actress, and her mother helped her pursue her dreams. Her successful career goes to show that you can accomplish anything you work hard at! Everyone recognizes Stone’s name or face, so it might be hard to believe that she only had her film debut in Superbad in 2007. Since then, she’s starred in hits like Easy A; Crazy, Stupid, Love; The Help; The Amazing Spider-Man; and Birdman. 

Emma also has won two Screen Actors Guild Awards and has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, and an Academy Award. Her career continues to grow, and she maintains an active and positive media image.

5) Stevie Nicks

Another star born and raised in Phoenix, Stevie Nicks is the lead singer of the famous group Fleetwood Mac. Rolling Stone not only crowned Nicks the “Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll,” but also included her in the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” Her album, “Rumours,” released in 1977, was a best selling album all over the world, with over forty million copies sold. It holds the record for the fifth highest-selling studio album of all time.

She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Nicks has received eight Grammy Award nominations for her solo career, and another five nominations as a part of Fleetwood Mac.

Cheyenne Reed was born and raised in Ohio. She recently relocated to rural Wyoming to try out working at an exclusive guest ranch. She graduated from Kent State University with an English degree, and most enjoys writing about travel.
