12 Things You Should Never Ever Say to Someone From Wyoming

Wyoming—the land of wide-open spaces, towering mountain ranges, and some of the friendliest folks you’ll ever meet. It’s a state where the sky seems endless and the stars are just a bit brighter. But if you ever find yourself chatting with a true Wyomingite, there are a few tongue-in-cheek comments you might want to avoid unless you’re aiming for a playful eye roll.

“Wyoming? Isn’t that just one big rectangle?”

Sure, on the map it might look like a geometric marvel, but inside those straight lines lies a world of wonder and adventure.

“Do you ride horses to work?”

While we appreciate a good horseback ride, most of us prefer our pickups and SUVs for the daily commute.

“Is Yellowstone the only thing there?”

Yellowstone is a gem, no doubt, but have you heard of the Tetons, Devil’s Tower, or the Wind River Range?

“I’ve never met anyone from Wyoming before!”

Well, we’re a rare breed—consider yourself lucky!

“Wait, Wyoming is a real place?”

As real as your geography teacher’s disappointment right now.

“Must be boring with nothing to do out there.”

Only if you consider skiing, hiking, fishing, and rodeos boring.

“Do you have internet out there?”

Yep, and we even upgraded from dial-up!

“I heard there are more cows than people.”

True, and the cows are excellent company.

“Isn’t it always cold and snowy?”

We enjoy all four seasons—sometimes all in the same day.

“So, how’s life on the prairie?”

Fantastic, but you might be thinking of a different state with less mountainous terrain.

“Do you know John? He lives in Wyoming too.”

With nearly 100,000 square miles to roam, chances are slim—but anything’s possible!

“Why would anyone live in the middle of nowhere?”

Because “nowhere” is a pretty amazing place when you know where to look.

Wyomingites are fiercely proud of their state, quirks and all. So next time you meet someone from the Cowboy State, skip the clichés and ask about their favorite hiking spot or local diner. You might just find out why they wouldn’t trade their rectangular slice of paradise for anything else.
