Castle Hot Springs is a popular and luxurious resort where the mega-celebrities, affluent families, and other dignitaries once visited for relaxation and rejuvenation. It was also used as a military rehabilitation center during World War II. In fact, former President John F. Kennedy spent three months here to recover from his wounds.

The famed wellness resort was originally built in 1896 to serve the indigenous people who journeyed to the waters for medicinal purposes. The promise of the springs was a refreshing partner to the desert environment. Sure enough, the first guests had to trek to the spring and endure a difficult five-hour stagecoach ride. But the natural hot springs are worth it. So much so that this natural wonder attracted throngs of people, including intrepid travelers, artists, as well as other dignitaries. You will be surprised to know that their guest register includes the Rockefeller, Pew, Vanderbilt and Astor families, as well as former President Theodore Roosevelt.

The property ownership changed a few more times until Phoenix business couple Cindy and Mike Watts acquired it in 2014. They finished the restoration and development by 2019, and Castle Hot Springs emerged once more, to deliver wellness in a verdant desert oasis.

Who Would Say ‘No’ to an Oasis Escape?

This beautiful resort is located in the Sonoran Desert and is only about an hour’s drive from Phoenix.

If you are seeking digital detox, or if you simply want to commune with nature as you relax, this place is definitely for you. You won’t find any televisions in the guestrooms, and the Wi-Fi service is limited. It’s a good thing if you do value peace of mind, and if you don’t want to stay glued into your gadgets. You won’t even have to worry about a trip to the Castle Hot Springs being a dull one. This oasis escape has 12 Spring Bungalows set on a hillside surrounded by palm trees. There, you can find gas fireplaces as well as oversized soaking tubs filled with water from the hot springs. Feel free to bathe and relax.

Once done, you can proceed to the Sky View Cabins, and take in the breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. Nighttime is equally amazing. Guests can enjoy the starry night simply by looking up or using the telescopes in the wood decks.
