For some reason, the clouds seem to hang low at Lockett Meadow Arizona. But that’s only because the San Francisco Peaks are so large. The San Francisco Peaks are actually the remains of an extinct volcano. This volcano erupted a long time ago (millions of years ago), totally shattering its form and reshaping the peaks, which then formed four of the highest individual peaks in Arizona. The evidence of the cataclysmic event has now been erased because the quiet caldera now has a lush alpine environment that any nature lover would want to visit.

The views of the Inner Basin and the San Francisco Peaks look so dreamy. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re here alone or you’re with a loved one or a family member. You will be in awe.

We doubt you’d ever want to leave this campground. It may be rustic, but it’s set among beautiful trees and such a scenic landscape. You can choose from more than 15 sites, and each campground is awesome in its own right. You’ll be treated to the beauty of the wilderness, as well as the cinder-cone landscape that looks too good to be true.
