The state park shown in the photo is a visitor favorite, Starved Rock State Park, which offers a ton of recreational activities for adults and families like camping, hiking, picnicking, and general sightseeing. Some other awesome state parks in Illinois are Illinois Beach State Park, Castle Rock State Park and Apple River Canyon State Park, to just name a few.
Route 66 is an iconic part of American history, throughout the country and Illinois in particular. The street sign itself is iconic and is frequently used in television, film and nostalgic souvenirs. Travelers have looked forward to driving on this highway for many decades, keeping an eye out for the quirky eateries and other tourist attractions to visit during their trip. There are few scenic drives as popular as Route 66 is, and is absolutely a suggested bucket list additional for those that have never traveled on it before.
